Testosterone Replacement Therapy FAQ:
How Can I Tell if I Have Low Testosterone?
Testosterone levels can be determined by a simple blood test. If you have symptoms associated with low testosterone or andropause, American Male Medical recommends getting a blood test as soon as possible.
What are the benefits of Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)?
The benefits of TRT are often noticed within 3-6 weeks after starting treatment. Your physician will discuss the benefits and any known risks associated with treatment and determine the best TRT option for you.
TRT can improve:
- Sex drive
- Energy level
- Mental clarity
- Fat Loss
- Gains in muscle mass
- Sleep quality
- Bone density
What are the TRT options?
American Male Medical offers both injection and topical testosterone administration options. Injection is long lasting, has a 100% success rate in providing useable hormone, requires a dosage interval of only once each week, and is low in cost. Topical options allow absorption through the skin and are administered in low daily doses.
What will happen if I don’t treat my Testosterone levels?
Your testosterone levels will continue to reduce. Your symptoms may remain the same or worsen depending upon your response to depletion of testosterone. If your testosterone levels are low, American Male Medical recommends you seek consultation as soon as possible.
I have prostate cancer, can I receive TRT?
Men with a history of prostate cancer or breast cancer are absolutely not candidates for testosterone therapy. The testosterone can make both of these hormonally sensitive cancers grow more rapidly. However, if you are experiencing lack of or a limited erection caused by prostate surgery, we offer a guaranteed solution to help you get and maintain a penetrable erection.
How much does testosterone replacement therapy cost?
Our competitive pricing of $149 includes an exam, consultation, and lab test. You’ll be scheduled for a follow-up visit at which time your lab tests will be reviewed and a treatment plan developed.
Will my insurance cover TRT?
American Male Medical will provide you with all the forms necessary for your insurance company. If you have a PPO, some companies will reimburse 50% to 80% of the amount. Also, owners of a flexi spending account may be able it use it as an additional option.
How long will TRT take?
The duration of your therapy depends upon your body’s response. Though typically, the benefits of TRT are noticed within 3-6 weeks after start of treatment.
The goal of testosterone replacement therapy is to increase your testosterone levels. Once this has been achieved, you will be monitored at regular intervals to check your levels, evaluate your response, and measure your success. It is common for therapeutic care to continue throughout the remainder of your life, as your body will likely return to lower hormone levels upon stopping the program.
What Happens at the first appointment?
You will be escorted to a private exam room upon your arrival, upon which you’ll be asked to complete several medical forms. You will then meet with a clinician who will review your medical history, perform a brief physical exam, and draw blood for a review of total testosterone level and PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen).
If your physician feels you are a candidate for TRT, you will be given a test dosage, a follow-up exam will be scheduled, and if appropriate, begin your testosterone treatment.
Will I have to go back to the doctor to have the treatment administered?
No, you will be shown how to administer the testosterone.

Peyronie’s Disease (Curved Penis) FAQ:
What is Peyronie’s Disease?
Peyronie’s disease, or severe penile curvature, is caused by the formation of scar tissue within the phallus. If Peyronie’s Disease interferes with sexual enjoyment, a physician may suggest surgery to remove the affected tissue. But for many, the thought of surgery can be very difficult to consider. This is why the specialists at American Male Medical are committed to using non-surgical methods of treating Peyronie’s Disease.
What are the symptoms of Peyronie’s Disease?
Men suffering from a curved penis may experience:
- Erectile pain
- Pain during orgasm
- Discomfort upon touch, even when flaccid
- Hard growths underneath the skin of the penis
- Shortening of the penis
- Trouble keeping an erection
- Strange penile shape, or resemblance of an hourglass
What are the causes of Peyronie’s Disease?
Peyronie’s disease is the result of the penis not healing properly after severe trauma. Commonly, this is caused by an injury during sports or while having sex. Other known factors are diabetes and prolonged tobacco use.
How can Peyronie’s Disease be treated?
American Male Medical takes a firm stance on non-surgical options for our patients. Our accredited specialists may prescribe the use of a vacuum pump to draw blood into the affected areas. Over time, this will help rehabilitate the penis and ultimately cure the disease.
Alternatively, direct injections of medication are effective in reducing the scar tissue that causes Peyronie’s Disease. Our physicians may recommended multiple injections over several months, or until the penis fully heals.

Premature Ejaculation FAQ:
What are the causes of Premature Ejaculation?
Originally thought to be a mental issue, science has proven that premature ejaculation is much more complicated. Studies show that PE is the result of a rapid sensory response to penile stimulation, coupled with both psychological and biological factors.
The goal with any premature ejaculation therapy is to reduce the hypersensitivity and prolong sexual intercourse before ejaculation.
Commonly, anti-depressants have been a popular method of “curing” PE. One of the more typical side effects of anti-depressants is delayed ejaculation. But, most include a long list of side effects including decreased libido, drowsiness, nausea, sweating, and even delirium. Because of this, American Male Medical strongly advises against using anti-depressants for the treatment of premature ejaculation.
